Protest Held in Washington against ‘Illegal’ Annexation of Hawaii

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tasnim) – A group of civil rights activists and indigenous Hawaiians held a protest rally in Washington, D.C. to voice their outrage over the “illegal annexation” of the island by the US government.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the demonstrators rallied in front of the National Museum of the American Indian and outside Congress on Friday.

During the protest, the activists carried various placards calling on the US to “de-occupy” Hawaii.

The overthrow of the Queen of Hawaii and the annexation of the island in 1890s was contrary to the will of the native Hawaiians.

Back in 1897, the Queen of Hawaii sent a letter to the US State Department protesting the annexation, but it was never answered.
