16 Killed, 12 Injured as Bus Overturns in Northern Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sixteen people lost their lives and 12 others were injured on Saturday after a bus overturns in Karaj-Chalus road, north of the Iranian capital of Tehran, the managing director of Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) in Alborz province announced.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Ehsan Nasiri said the bus hit a power pole in Karaj-Chalus road and overturned at 2:55 a.m. (local time) on Saturday morning and unfortunately 16 passengers were killed.

The bus had 28 people on board, he said, adding that 12 other passengers were injured and have been taken to hospital.

Nasiri also announced that 6 ambulances, 2 rescue vehicles and 25 rescue workers, among others, have been dispatched to participate in the rescue operation.

Karaj-Chalus road, which is a twisting road used by a large number of people driving to popular tourist attractions in the north of Iran, has witnessed numerous car crashes and natural disasters.
