FM Zarif Calls for Expansion of Tehran-Islamabad Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday hailed the relations between Iran and Pakistan as good and cordial.

In a meeting with Pakistan’s new ambassador to Tehran, Zarif hoped that the relations between the two neighboring countries will further expand in all areas.

The Iranian top diplomat also highlighted the importance of regional security and called for cooperation between Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan on protection of border security and stability.

For his part, Asif Durrani, the new Pakistani envoy, referred to the significance his country’s authorities attach to the ties with Iran and expressed the hope that the two countries would enhance the relations in various fields during his tenure.

He also submitted his credentials to the Iranian foreign minister during the meeting.

The two neighboring countries, which have always enjoyed friendly ties, have worked to develop cooperation in different spheres in the past few months.

During a formal visit to Islamabad by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani back in March, high-ranking officials from Iran and Pakistan signed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in different fields of trade and commerce, insurance, culture, academy, health and medicine.
