Damascus Ready for Intra-Syrian Peace Talks without Preconditions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian government is ready for the next round of intra-Syrian peace talks without any preliminary conditions, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva on April 13-27.

The opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) walked out of the negotiations, citing the continuous fighting in Syria and the lack of progress on humanitarian issues.

"Syria is ready for the intra-Syrian dialogue without preconditions, hoping that this dialogue will lead to a final resolution, which will be determined by the Syrians themselves. Without foreign intervention. With the support of the UN and the international community," the statement obtained by RIA Novosti said.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with the country's army fighting a number of opposition factions and terrorist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into effect in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIL), as well as al-Nusra Front are not part of the deal.
