Iran’s Zarif in Bolivia for Official Visit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is in Bolivia on the fifth leg of his tour of Latin America to hold talks with senior officials of the South American country on various issues, including ways to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Zarif arrived in the Bolivian capital of Sucre on Thursday night (local time) after paying an official visit to Chile.

During his trip to Chile, the Iranian top diplomat met with a number Chilean officials, including his counterpart, Heraldo Munoz Valenzuela, discussing bilateral relations between Tehran and Santiago in various areas, economy in particular.

The meeting between Zarif and Munoz, which was held behind closed doors on Thursday, was the first in the history of diplomatic ties between Iran and Chile.

The two foreign ministers held talks on a range of issues related to Latin America and the Middle East regions.

Zarif’s trip to Chile comes a few months after the reopening of the South American state’s embassy in Tehran, 37 years after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Heading a 120-strong delegation of business people and economic officials, Zarif is now in Sucre on the fifth leg of his six-nation tour of Latin America, which will take him to Venezuela later.

He had visited Cuba, Nicaragua and Ecuador before Chile.
