Iran’s Petrochimi Beaten by Riyadi at FIBA Asia Champions Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian basketball club Petrochimi suffered its first defeat at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2016 in Chenzhou, China.

On Wednesday, Petrochimi was defeated against Lebanon’s Al Riyadi 74-63.

Al Riyadi finished atop Group A at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

Dewarwick Spencer led the way for the Lebanese club with a strong double-double performance, while El Khatib turned back the clock to put up 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Petrochimi did not get much from reliables like Gerald Robinson and Oshin Sahakian, each of whom scored just 5 points. James White and Behnam Yakhchali paced the losing side with 22 and 13 points respectively.

The Lebanese is set to face Barsy Atyrau in the next round. Petrochimi will prepare for a knockout affair with dangerous Al Shorta in the Quarter-Final.

The winners of the Quarter-Final will advance to the Semi-Final, while the losing teams in the Quarter-Final will play 5-8 classification games.

The 24th edition was held in 2013 in Amman, Jordan where Iranian club Foolad Mahan Isfahan emerged victorious beating Al Rayyan from Qatar in the final.
