Chatham House Prize Belongs to Iranian Nation: Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif believes that the Chatham House Prize that he has won this year belongs to the Iranian nation for their resistance, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said.

In a statement late on Monday, Qassemi confirmed reports saying that Zarif and his US counterpart John Kerry have been voted as the winners of Chatham House Prize 2016 for their pivotal role in the conclusion of a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the six world powers in July 2015.

The spokesman further emphasized that Zarif cannot participate in an upcoming ceremony to receive the award in London due to his busy schedule.

“Dr. Zarif believes that the prize belongs to the great Iranian nation, who managed to overcome pressures and sanctions in recent years with their resistance and wisdom,” Qassemi said.

In a report published on Monday, the official website of the Chatham House announced that Zarif has won its prize.

The Chatham House Prize is presented annually to the person, persons or organization deemed by members of the Royal Institute of International Affairs to have made the most significant contribution to the improvement of international relations in the previous year.
