Takfiri Militants in Aleppo Caught Unawares by Syrian Army

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syria’s army, backed by volunteer forces, caught Takfiri terrorists completely unawares on Tuesday after launching major surprise attacks against the militants in the Arab country’s embattled northwestern city of Aleppo.

According to Tasnim dispatches, fierce clashes broke out between the Syrian forces and terrorist groups early on Tuesday after the army troops launched several surprise attacks in southwestern Aleppo and closed in on the militants from different directions.

Large groups of terrorists were killed, injured and captured in the process of the clashes.

Additionally, Syrian and Russian warplanes heavily pounded the terrorists’ gathering centers in northern Aleppo, inflicting major losses on them.

In a separate development, the Syrian forces targeted the militants’ positions in Bustan al-Basha, a village located along the Mediterranean coastline in northern Syria, part of the Lattakia Governorate, clearing several residential areas of them.

On Monday, the army forces and their allies captured the hilltop of Bazo on the southern edge of Aleppo, near military bases.

Fighting returned to Aleppo Saturday night, after a lull meant to allow the Takfiri militants and civilians to leave the eastern districts expired without anyone leaving.

Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, has been divided between government forces in the west and the militants in the east since 2012. In an attempt to free the trapped civilian population and to end the militants’ reign of terror in the east, the Syrian army, backed by Russian fighter jets, began a major offensive on September 22.
