Iran’s FM Leaves for New York

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif headed for New York to attend the UN High-Level Political Forum 2017, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced.

He said Zarif left Tehran for New York early on Thursday, adding that the Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to hold talks with a number of world officials, thinkers and personalities on the sidelines of the forum.

Qassemi went on to say that addressing the US Council of Foreign Relations on Monday, July 17, in a session to be attended by Richard N. Haass, the council’s president, is also on Zarif’s agenda during his trip to the US.

According to the think tank’s website, Zarif is going to discuss the “current developments in the Middle East” in the upcoming session.

The meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2017, convened under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council, started in New York on Monday, July 10, and will run until Wednesday, July 19.

The theme of the event is eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world, according to the website of the forum.
