Iran Eyes Closer Ties with Cuba in Economic, Medical Fields

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lauding the perfect political relations between Tehran and Havana, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called for the expansion of ties in the other fields including economic sphere, technical sectors, biotechnology, medicine, pharmaceuticals and vaccine production.

In a meeting with former president of Cuba Raul Castro, held in Havana on Thursday, President Raisi said the political relations between Iran and Cuba are at the highest level.

Referring to the progress and achievements of the Cuban Revolution, especially in the field of health, Raisi said, "This level of relations is a requirement that in other fields, including economic, technical, biotechnology, medicine, pharmaceuticals and vaccine production we can witness the development of relations."

Raisi also praised the patience, persistence and freedom-seeking spirit of the Cuban government and people against the unjust and unilateral US sanctions, his official website reported.

He then emphasized the necessity of unity and like-mindedness of as many countries as possible to deal with the global arrogance, especially in the wake of the recent developments in the international stage and the transition from the current system to a multilateral one.

For his part, Castro praised the revolutionary struggle of the Iranian nation and their 44 years of resistance against imperialism, and said, "Today, the era of unilateralism is over and we are transitioning to multilateralism."

The Iranian president and his entourage visited Cuba in the final leg of a tour of Latin America that took them earlier to Venezuela and Nicaragua.

They left Cuba for Iran on Thursday night.
