Tensions Flare in Barcelona As Thousands Rally against Israeli Attacks on Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Approximately 7,500 demonstrators flooded the streets of Barcelona on Sunday, calling for an end to Israel's attacks on Gaza.

The pro-Palestinian protest, marked by the hashtags #WeAreAllGaza and #GazaGenocide, took a tense turn when demonstrators occupied the Estació de França train station, resulting in clashes with the police and a temporary closure of the station.

Characterized by a strong anti-Israel sentiment, participants waved Palestinian flags and carried posters condemning the attacks on Gaza. The demonstrators accused Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing, urging European states, including Spain, and the European Union to intervene and cease arms trade and military cooperation with Israel.

The tensions in Barcelona mirror a broader international response to the Israel aggression on Gaza, with simultaneous pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London and Paris. The ongoing war on Gaza has sparked heightened activism globally. The Barcelona protest, with the symbolic renaming of the train station as 'Estació Palestina,' underscores the transnational nature of the issue, showcasing the power of digital activism and the significance of physical spaces.

The international dimension of the conflict is further highlighted by reactions from Arab and Muslim countries, with a joint Islamic Arab summit in Riyadh calling for an end to attacks on Gaza.
