Iran Keen to Cement Ties with Kuwait As New Emir Comes to Power

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to strengthen relations with Kuwait at a meeting with the Arab country’s new emir.

Hossein Amirabdollahian traveled to Kuwait on Sunday and met with Kuwait’s new Emir Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, who has replaced Sheikh Nawaf who ruled for three years before his death last week.

Offering condolences on behalf of the Iranian president, government and people over the death of Kuwait's late emir, Amirabdollahian congratulated the new emir on his accession.

He also reaffirmed Iran's support for Kuwait, hailed the close ties between the two nations, and expressed hope that the bilateral relations would further improve during the new term.

The Kuwaiti emir, for his part, sent his warm greetings to the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution and the Iranian president.

He also thanked Iran for its message of condolence, saying he has instructed Kuwait's foreign minister and other cabinet members to push for the expansion of relations with Iran in all spheres.
