Rasht-Caspian Railway to Go on Stream Next Month: Iran Roads Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of roads and urban development said the Rasht-Caspian Railway will soon be put into operation in a ceremony with the participation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 7th edition of the Iran International Transportation, Logistics, and Related Industries dubbed “Iran Trans 2023”, Mehrdad Bazrpash said the Rasht-Caspian Railway will become operational next month.

He also said the completion of the construction of domestic railway projects including Tehran-Qom and Tehran-Isfahan railways will become operational as soon as possible once the existing barriers are settled.

Turning to the Rasht-Astara railway project, the minister said ground will be broken for the construction operation of this giant railway project in the coming month in the presence of Iranian and Azeri presidents, Mehr news agency reported. 

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bazrpash pointed to the transit of goods via Iran and said that 9.5 million tons of goods were transited via the country in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to November 22, 2023).

The 7th edition of Iran International Transportation, Logistics, and Related Industries was inaugurated at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini (RA) Congressional Prayers Hall (Mosalla) on Monday and will run through December 20.
