Pakistan Wishes Iran Successful Polls

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Pakistan wished Iran success in holding the upcoming parliamentary elections, highlighting Iran’s great position in his country’s foreign policy.

In a telephone conversation on Friday evening, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues.

The top Pakistani diplomat expressed hope that next week's Parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections in Iran will be held successfully.

Jilani outlined the process of forming the government and introducing the prime minister in Pakistan. He then said Iran has a high place in the foreign policy of Pakistan which is beyond the internal developments of the country.

For his part, Amirabdollahian congratulated Pakistan on holding the recent election successfully.

He expressed hope that following the formation of parliament, the prime minister and cabinet members of Pakistan will be picked and they will start working officially.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the issues over which Tehran and Islamabad have agreed during his recent visit to Islamabad, stressing the importance of the relationship between the organizations tasked with pursuing and implementing the agreements in both countries, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the developments in Gaza, as the Pakistani minister welcomed Iran’s proposal for an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to address the crisis in Palestine.
