Iran’s New Envoy Assigned to Cement Trade, Political Ties with Thailand

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The new ambassador of Iran to Bangkok has been tasked with strengthening the economic and political relations with Thailand’s new government.

Iran’s new ambassador to Thailand met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Saturday before the start of his diplomatic mission.

In the meeting, the foreign minister highlighted the significance that Iran attaches to the promotion of age-old relations with Thailand, which is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Stressing the need to strengthen Iran’s economic and trade cooperation with the ASEAN states, Amirabdollahian called on the new ambassador to push for the expansion of political, parliamentary and economic relations with Thailand’s new government.

Since the headquarters of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is based in Bangkok, the Iranian ambassador will also represent the Islamic Republic in that regional commission.
