Iran Calls for Israeli Regime to Be Punished for Its Crimes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations called for the Israeli regime to face consequences for its crimes, which have caused widespread suffering in the region.

"Israel shall be punished for all its international wrongdoings, which has put the whole region on fire," Saeed Iravani said during a UN General Assembly meeting on Palestine.

Iravani highlighted the regime's ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of over 33,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, since October 7 last year.

"This assault is without precedent in modern history in the scale and pace of killing of children, of UN humanitarian and medical teams, of journalists…" he emphasized.

The remarks followed a statement from UNRWA’s Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, who noted that the Israeli war had reached unprecedented levels of casualties among minors, paramedics, and journalists.

“This war broke all the superlatives with the highest number of children killed, aid workers, journalists, and medical teams + unprecedented attacks & destruction of hospitals & UN buildings in blatant disregard of International Humanitarian Law,” he wrote in a post on his X account.

"We all know the horrors need to end, and the only way to end them is an effective ceasefire," Iravani asserted.

He also criticized Israel's refusal to comply with UN resolutions calling for an end to aggression, including a recent resolution from the Security Council.

"Despite repeated calls, Israel has failed to commit to its obligations. Israel blatantly has defied these resolutions and continues in its atrocious and genocidal acts against the defenseless people of Gaza," Iravani added.

The ambassador further condemned Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, which resulted in the deaths of seven Iranians, including a senior IRGC commander.

"The Israeli regime committed a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic," he asserted.

Iravani also criticized the United States for its support of Israel, stating, "By playing a destructive role, the United States has exhausted the entire arsenal of political and diplomatic devices to prevent establishment of peace, and deliberately undermined multilateral efforts under the auspices of the UN for the sake of their selfish geopolitical interests in the Middle East region."
