Iran Exports Products to 39 African States in One Year: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran exported products to 39 African countries in the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024), the spokesman for the Trade Promotion Commission of Iran’s House of Industry, Mine and Trade said.

Africa is a lucrative market for Iranian goods and products, Rouhollah Latifi said, adding that Iran’s export of products to East, West, North and South Africa considerably increased last year.

Speaking at the 2nd International Iran-Africa Summit, he noted that Iran imported non-oil products from 22 African countries in this period.

The African continent, with a population of 1.3 billion, provides a great opportunity for the country to expand trade and economic relations, Latifi emphasized.

African countries need fuel and energy, technology, technical know-how and mechanization in the production of agricultural products, construction of infrastructural projects including mine, road construction, development projects, overhauling of refineries, extraction of gas, etc. and competent Iranian companies can play a leading role in exporting technical and engineering services to these countries, the spokesman underscored.

Iran witnessed considerable growth in the export of its manufactured products to African countries including Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Djibouti and Morocco last year (ended March 19, 2024), he added, IRNA reported.

Iran imported food and agricultural products such as tea, corn, coffee, tobacco, cereals, fishery products and minerals (manganese stone, zinc soil and rock, chrome concentrate) and industrial lubricant and grease, chemicals and machinery from African states in the previous year, he stated.

The 2nd Iran-Africa International Summit was inaugurated in Tehran on Friday in the presence of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Abbas Aliabadi and representatives of more than 30 member states of the African Union.

This meeting is a symbol of the will of African countries and Iran to expand economic relations, Raisi told in the inaugural ceremony of this prestigious event.
