Iran Sympathizes with Afghans over Deaths in Flooding

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson expressed his sympathy for the Afghan people affected by the deadly flash floods in northern Afghanistan.

In a statement on Sunday, Nasser Kanaani offered his condolences to Afghanistan over the flash floods that have killed scores of people and destroyed houses in the northern parts of the neighboring country.

At least 153 people have been killed in flash floods in northern Afghanistan triggered by torrential rains, the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior Affairs has said.

On Saturday, ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani put the number of injured at 138 people in three provinces.

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) said the floods have killed more than 300 people in the worst-hit province of Baghlan, where more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed.

Heavy rains on Friday led to flooding in several areas of the country, with fears of the death toll rising.
