Spreading Iranophobia Sign of West's Dishonesty: Shamkhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani slammed certain Western states for their double-standard approach to Iran's nuclear talks, saying that their attempts to spread Iranophobia proves their duplicity.

Speaking in a Wednesday meeting with visiting Iraqi President Fuad Masum in Tehran, Shamkhani pointed to the ongoing negotiations between Iran and six world powers over the country's peaceful nuclear program, emphasizing that the other side has adopted double-standard approaches to the talks.

He said the spread of Iranophobia by the West is a sign of insincerity and the repetition of its miscalculations.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's nuclear program.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Shamkhani emphasized the necessity for the promotion of relations between Iran and Iraq in diverse areas, in the field of security in particular.

"Cooperation between Iran and Iraq in the fight against terrorism and the restoration of security to vast areas in this country (Iraq) can ensure tranquility and lasting welfare for the oppressed people of Iraq, including Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds, through designing and implementing effective economic programs," he noted.

The Iraqi president, for his part, hailed Iran's efforts to combat terrorism in the region and called for further consultations and cooperation between the two neighbors in various spheres.
