Iran Condemns Shiite Mosque Attack in Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a terrorist bombing on a Shiite mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia that killed four people on Friday in the second such attack in two weeks claimed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Friday condemned the attack on the Imam Hussein (PBUH) mosque in Dammam.

She also urged that all measures should be taken to prevent such attacks, and called for serious action against those who have targeted the region’s security and stability and seek to provoke religious strife.

The attack happened shortly after noon Friday outside the Imam Hussein mosque in Dammam, a coastal city about 70 kilometers (45 miles) from the Persian Gulf island nation of Bahrain.

The ISIL terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a statement posted to Twitter by its supporters.

The latest attack happened a week after another suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque that killed 21 people in the same province last Friday.
