Iranian Nation Seeks Peace, But Makes Any Aggressor Regret It: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani reaffirmed the Iranian nation’s peace-seeking approach, but at the same time underlined that the country’s response to any aggression would be crushing.

“The Iranian nation has never launched an aggression against any other nation, but it has strongly defended itself against aggressors,” Rouhani said on Tuesday, addressing a conference in Tehran.

“We are a peaceful nation that supports the oppressed, but if anyone dares to invade the country today, we … would make them regret their action,” he stressed.

Rouhani made the remarks in reaction to repetitive anti-Iran statements by Western officials, who threaten that their military option against Iran remains on the table.

Earlier in May, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reaffirmed that the Iranian nation will not let any possible act of aggression against the country go unanswered.

The Leader said he has already made it clear, even in the tenure of former US president, that "the era of hit and run has ended", and that the Iranian nation will chase aggressors.

Elsewhere in his remarks on Tuesday, President Rouhani referred to the successful conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, and said the country’s peaceful image is now more evident to the world than ever.

He added that only a few warmongers in the US and Israel are opposing the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Iran and the sextet on July 14 successfully concluded their nuclear talks in Vienna, Austria, and finalized the text of a comprehensive nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
