Georgia’s Deputy Speaker Due in Iran Friday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy Chairman of Georgia’s Parliament Gubaz Sanikidze will travel to Iran at the head of a delegation on Friday, an adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker announced.

During his 6-day visit to Tehran, Sanikidze will be accompanied by the head of Iran-Georgia parliamentary friendship group, Hossein Sheikholeslam, an adviser to Ali Larijani in international affairs, said.

According to Sheikholeslam, the Georgian lawmaker is scheduled to meet with his counterparts in the Iranian parliament as well as a number of high-ranking officials.

The parliamentary delegation of Georgia will leave the country for Tbilisi next Thursday, he added.

The visit will come nearly 7 months after Davit Usupashvili, the speaker of Georgia’s parliament, visited Tehran on January 25 at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.

During his three-day visit, the Georgian speaker held talks with Larijani and other Iranian officials to discuss various bilateral issues.

In his meeting with Larijani, Usupashvili highlighted the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Georgia, and said that the two countries will increase the number of meetings between their parliamentary friendship groups to discuss issues of mutual interest.
