Iran Produces 20 New Homegrown Medicines in 5 Months

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of Iran’s Food and Drug Administration announced that the country’s pharmaceutical experts have managed to produce about 20 new medicines inside the country over the first five months of the current Iranian year, which started on March 21.

Over the five months of this year, about 20 new drugs, which previously used to be imported from abroad, were produced inside the country, Rassoul Dinarvand said on Thursday.

He further made assurances that another 20 medicines will be added to the collection of domestically-made drugs by the end of this year (March 2016).

Dinarvand, who is also the Iranian deputy health minister, said the new medicines are among the recent achievements by the country’s pharmaceutical and knowledge-based companies.

Earlier in February, Iran unveiled 12 new homegrown medicines used for the treatment of a whole range of illnesses, including cancer, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Iranian experts have in recent years made great headways in using modern medical technology to cure a broad range of diseases inside the country, making Iran as a top destination for medical tourism.
