Terrorism Posing Threat to All World: Iran’s Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani warned against the widespread threat of terrorism in the world, saying its adverse effects are not restricted to the Middle East alone.

“Terrorism and extremism are not confined to the region and would be dangerous for all (countries),” Larijani said in a meeting with Speaker of Britain’s House of Lords Baroness D'Souza.

The two senior parliamentarians met on the sidelines of the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

Larijani also stressed the need for collective action in the fight against terrorism.

Elsewhere in the meeting, he pointed to the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), and highlighted the great investment opportunities in Iran following implementation of a lasting nuclear deal reached between the two sides.

The British official, for her part, hailed the reopening of the British embassy in Iran, saying the development could mark a new chapter in Tehran-London relations.

On August 23, the British embassy in Iran reopened after a 4-year closure.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended a ceremony to mark the reopening. It was the first visit by a British foreign secretary to Iran since 2003.

Simultaneously, Iran’s embassy in London also reopened.

The thaw in Iran-Britain relations follows finalization of the landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14.
