MPs Assessing JCPOA Want Top Iranian Officials in Meetings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A special parliamentary commission reviewing the finalized text of a nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers is ready to host Iran’s president and Judiciary chief in its hearing sessions, the commission’s rapporteur said.

Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told Tasnim on Saturday that members of the commission are prepared to listen to President Hassan Rouhani and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani in sessions to know about their views on the conclusion of the Vienna nuclear talks.

He noted that Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has also voiced willingness to attend one of the commission’s meetings, but the time is unspecified yet.

Larijani had announced earlier that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is being carefully studied by the lawmakers, noting that results of the scrutiny process will be announced in late September.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the text of the JCPOA in Vienna on July 14.

The accord has subjected the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.
