Regional Security Requisite for Economic Cooperation: Iranian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran attaches great significance to negotiations about collective efforts for regional security, which in turn paves the way for sustainable economic interaction for the fulfillment of common interests, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani described regional security as a common priority that will prepare the ground for sustainable cooperation in the economic sector.

Highlighting the importance that Iran attaches to negotiations about collective security, the spokesman said new steps are going to be taken to fulfill the common interests of regional states.

He noted that multilateral cooperation is based upon the expansion of Iran’s relations with neighboring and Arab countries in the region and on the creation of a positive and constructive atmosphere in the bilateral and multilateral talks with the Persian Gulf states.

Decrying foreign interference in the region and also the attempts by certain regional actors at fomenting instability with the escalation of tensions, the spokesman said, “We have moved past this stage and are now in the stage of dialogue to start mechanisms for collective cooperation.”

His comments came a day after Tehran hosted the third meeting of the ‘Iranian-Arab Dialogues for Cooperation and Interaction’ under the auspices of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

In a post on his X account, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said, “We have moved beyond Iran-Arab talks to regional dialogues and, furthermore, to regional cooperation.”
