Queiroz to Stay in Iran Until 2015: IFF General Secretary

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Mehdi Mohammad Nabi, the general secretary of Iran Football Federation (IFF), said that country's football head coach Carlos Queiroz will lead Iran in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Earlier reports had said that Queiroz has reached an agreement with South Africa and will join the team after the 2014 World Cup.

Speaking to Iranian Jaam-e-Jam TV network on Tuesday, Nabi rejected the reports and said, “Queiroz will certainly head Iran football team until the end of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup."

Last week, Iran’s training camp in South Africa was cancelled. The camp was scheduled to open on April 11 in the African country. Queiroz cancelled the camp after he found out Iran key players cannot participate in the preparation.

“We will try to arrange the training camp with participations of Javad Nekounam, Pejman Montazeri and Mojtaba Jabbari, who are playing in the Arab leagues. In the last session held with Kaffashian (President of IFF) and Queiroz, we reached an agreement to hold three training camps ahead of the FIFA 2014 World Cup,” Nabi said.

Iran has been drawn in Group F of the World Cup with giant Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nigeria.
