Iranian Official Warns against Possible New Anti-Syria Military Front

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who is in Russia for official visit, warned against formation of a new anti-Damascus military front.

Speaking with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Wednesday, Amir Abdollahian said there are new regional and international movements aimed at opening a new military front against Damascus in Syria’s southern regions.

He underlined that the Zionist regime is playing an extensive part in plotting and implementing this scenario.

Amir Abdollahian ruled out a military solution for the crisis in Syria, and said "regional cooperation is necessary" for ending the conflict.

He also hailed Moscow’s stances on regional issues, especially Syria, and stressed the need for continued consultations to resolve the Syrian issue politically.

Bogdanov, for his part, referred to the recent Geneva talks for peace in Syria and rejected any foreign meddling in talks between the Syrian sides.

He also said it is only the people of Syria who must decide the future of their country.

The Geneva 2 talks between delegations representing the Syrian government and the foreign-backed opposition ended without any breakthrough with both sides sticking to their positions and the latter insisting on the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s administration.

Amir Abdollahian and Bogdanov also discussed the latest developments in Egypt, Bahrain and Ukraine.
