IRGC Apprehends Terrorist Team in Southwestern Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) arrested a terrorist team, affiliated with foreign espionage agencies, in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan.

The IRGC said in a statement on Monday that it has busted the foreign-linked terrorist team following a series of complicated intelligence operations after it identified, monitored and controlled the team members’ activities outside the Iranian borders.

The foreign spying agencies had plotted to deploy the team into Iran to carry out acts of terror and sabotage inside the country, but the IRGC managed to capture the terrorist team members after their arrival in Khuzestan province in the early days of the new Iranian year (started on March 21).

According to the IRGC, the terrorists, working under the patronage of the spy agencies of the Iranian nation’s enemies, were involved in a plot to carry out a psychological operation in Iran with the aim of sabotaging some sensitive locations and planting bombs in those places in order to cause insecurity and panic in the country.

The IRGC has also seized some pieces of equipment from the terrorists, including sticky and roadside bombs, mobile phones and communication devices equipped with coding systems in the virtual space and the Internet.

Moreover, the captured terrorists have confessed to having links with the spying agencies which benefit from the backing of trans-regional enemies of Iran.
