Iranian Navy’s 29th Fleet Docks in Port of Djibouti

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy announced that its 29th fleet has docked in the Port of Djibouti in the Horn of Africa after 73 days of sailing.

The naval fleet had been deployed to the region with the aim of expanding Iran’s naval presence in the international waters.

The flotilla, with a group of Iranian Navy cadets on board, has already sailed across the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and has also berthed at the port of Salalah in Oman, before arriving at Djibouti, where it will stay for three days.

According to the reports, the fleet consists of Kharg helicopter carrier and Sabalan destroyer.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in the international waters to protect the marine routes and provide security for the trade vessels and oil tankers.

Since November 2008, the Iranian Navy has conducted anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mendeb strait to protect the country’s cargo ships and oil tankers against pirates.
