The Kuwaiti ruler, heading a high-ranking delegation, is in Iran for an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian authorities.
The visiting Sheikh Sabah also on Sunday met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran and both sides emphasized the need to develop, strengthen and deepen bilateral relations between Tehran and Kuwait City.
The emir’s trip to the Islamic Republic is his first since he became the ruler of Kuwait in 2006.
He is the second Arab ruler in the six-member Persian Gulf Cooperation Council to travel to Iran this year. The first was Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al-Said of Oman.
Kuwaiti ministers for foreign affairs, finance, oil and trade accompany the emir during the two-day visit.
