Leader Cautions Sponsors of Terrorism against Imminent Consequences

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei criticized certain regional countries for sponsoring the Takfiri (extremist) groups and the atrocities they commit in Syria, warning that such policy will eventually backfire.

“By offering assistance to the Takfiri groups, some regional countries are now supporting their (Takfiris’) killings and crimes in Syria and in a number of other countries,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with visiting Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, in Tehran on Monday.

The Leader, however, warned against the grave consequences of backing Takfiris and terrorists, saying the very same groups will ensnare their supporters in the not too far future.

Eventually, Ayatollah Khamenei added, the sponsors of the Takfiri groups will have to wipe them out by spending high costs.

Elsewhere in the meeting, Imam Khamenei emphasized the necessity for “healthy” relations among the whole regional countries, stressing that security of the region depends on good and healthy ties among the neighbors.

The Leader also pointed to the bilateral ties between Tehran and Kuwait City, and underlined, “The grounds are prepared for the further expansion of economic relations between the two countries, and a new page in the economic ties between Iran and Kuwait should be opened.”

The Kuwaiti emir, for his part, said his country is fully prepared to open up a new chapter in relations with Iran.

Sabah also praised Ayatollah Khamenei as a “mentor and guide” for the entire region, and agreed on the Leader’s emphasis on unity among the regional states and the need for countering extremism.

The Kuwaiti ruler, heading a high-ranking delegation, is in Iran for an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian authorities.

The emir’s visit to the Islamic Republic is his first since he became the ruler of Kuwait in 2006.

He is the second Arab ruler in the six-member Persian Gulf Cooperation Council to travel to Iran this year. The first was Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al-Said of Oman.
