Iranian Minister Blames Inaction by Int’l Community for Gaza Tragedy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Justice on Wednesday said inaction shown by the international community and the UN Security Council on Israeli atrocities has resulted in an "unprecedented tragedy" in Gaza.

“What is happening in Gaza is obviously genocide and a deliberate effort to massacre and kill Muslims who are the historical and main owners of Palestine,” said Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi in a letter to his counterparts in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Reiterating that Muslim countries should feel more responsible towards what is happening in the Gaza Strip, Pour-Mohammadi urged the OIC members to condemn the atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians in Gaza and use the capacities of the organization and their governments to confront the Zionist regime's crimes.

The Israeli offensive, which began on July 8, has killed mostly civilians according to the UN. The World Health Organization (WHO) said, the fighting has forced over 215,000 Gazans to flee their homes in the overcrowded coastal strip.

On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.

The death toll from 23 days of Israeli onslaught on Gaza has reached over 1,250 and over 7,000 have been wounded.
