New Afghan President Should Start Work in 15 Days: Karzai

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Afghan President Hamid Karzai reiterated on Thursday that Afghanistan should have a new president within the next two weeks.

Karzai made the remarks during a meeting with university lecturers at the Presidential Palace in Kabul, a statement from his office said.

Commenting on the election stalemate and its negative effects on the Afghan people, Karzai said the results would be made public as scheduled.

The new head of state should assume office in the next 15 days, he added.

As regards a recent political deal between the two presidential runners, Karzai said, “I hope the agreement will yield positive results and will prove to be in the interest of the people.”

While stressing consolidation of national unity, he urged all politicians to serve the interest of the masses and strengthen government departments, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.
