Iran Favors Stronger Ties with Egypt

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister voiced Tehran’s enthusiasm for closer relations with Cairo, and praised Egypt’s unique role in the Islamic world.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Iran regards Egypt as a major country in the Islamic and the Arab world.

He made the comments in a meeting with a delegation of Egyptian media activists, here in Tehran on Sunday evening.

“Iran is willing to see a stable, integrated and developed Egypt that plays a role that fits the true and historical position of that country in the region and in the Islamic world,” added the Iranian diplomat.

Amir Abdollahian stressed that not any other country would replace Egypt given the Arab country’s position and capacities.

He also underlined the necessity for the participation of all Egyptian parties and political groups in the peaceful political processes to help develop the Muslim nation and contribute to stability and security there.

Back in June, Amir Abdollahian took part in the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi swearing-in ceremony.
