Iran, Qatar Continue Political Negotiations

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The deputy foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar held the third round of common political negotiations in Tehran on Wednesday.

During the talks, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs discussed the agreements made during the past two rounds of the talks with his Qatari counterpart Mohammad Bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi.

The two sides also discussed the World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE), a proposal made by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani at United Nation’s General Assembly last year.

The two deputy foreign ministers reiterated cooperation in their research and academic centers and holding joint conferences as part of efforts to institutionalize the WAVE proposal in order to promote moderation and counter extremism in the region.

In December last year, the UNGA approved the proposal presented which asks the UN member states to unite against extremism, violence and sectarian conflicts in all their forms.

The resolution, which received overwhelming approval in the global body, also necessitates “appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace and to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character.”
