President Rouhani Calls Iran, India ‘Reliable Partners’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Friday praised the age-old ties between Tehran and New Delhi, and stressed that the two countries have always been reliable partners of each other.

“In addition to common historical and cultural roots, Iran and India have always been reliable partners of each other,” Rouhani said in a meeting with India’s Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on the sideline of the 14th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajikistan.

He noted that relations with the regional states, including India, as a powerful regional partner,  set a priority for Iran given the fact that many countries in the world are willing to invest in Iran after the creation of new space of interaction.

Rouhani also extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay a visit to Tehran.

Swaraj, for her part, described Iran as a reliable partner and main energy supplier of India.

In past few years, India and Iran have been working towards developing energy and economic cooperation.

India is among Asia’s major importers of energy and relies on Iran to meet a portion of its energy demand.
