Iraqi MP: Paris Conference Pretext for Reoccupation of Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iraqi lawmaker described the so-called counter-terrorism meeting in Paris as a pretext for reoccupation of Iraq.

Hassan Shibli told the Tasnim News Agency that the conference, held earlier this week, was a new scheme plotted by the United States to pave the way for the occupation of Iraq once again.

He added that ever since Iraqi people expelled US troops from their country, American politicians have been looking for excuses to reoccupy Iraq.

Shibli also dismissed a possible US decision to send ground forces to Iraq, underlining that there is a unanimous consensus among Iraqi politicians and leaders against the presence of foreign troops in the country.

Paris on Monday hosted a conference dubbed the International Conference on Peace and Security in Iraq, to discuss ways of tackling the ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) terrorists in Iraq and Syria amid US efforts to form a so-called international coalition to battle the Takfiri group.

(ISIL) is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey. It has already occupied parts of northern Syria and Iraq.
