TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Germany on Wednesday began its military support for the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group by sending its first shipment of weapons to Iraq.

The shipment of arms is set to leave Wednesday from east-central German city of Leipzig and includes bazookas, guns and ammunition, German public television ARD reported.

The weapons will be handed over to 10,000 Kurds in northern Iraq who are trying to halt the advance of the ISIL, Xinhua reported.

Germany decided in August to help fight against militants by providing limited military assistance to Iraq. Weapons from German army arsenal with a total value of 70 million euros (about 90 million US dollars) will be provided to the Kurds, including anti-tank missiles, bazookas, machine guns, assault rifles and hand grenades.
