Iranian Cleric Raps Israel’s Desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi condemned Israel’s recent sacrilegious moves in the holy city of al-Quds, slamming the “brutal” attacks on Palestinian worshippers at the al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a statement on Wednesday, the prominent cleric expressed outrage over the Tel Aviv regime’s aggressive measures against Palestinians, and urged a strong response from the Muslim nations and the international community.
“The brutal attack by hundreds of Israeli troops on the Palestinian worshippers and setting ablaze parts of the al-Aqsa Mosque, which takes place for the first time after 47 years, is not a case on which one could remain silent,” Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi underlined.
The cleric also called on the Islamic world countries, the freedom-seeking nations and the international circles not to stay silent on those “crimes, offenses and ominous and dangerous plots”.
Al-Quds has been witnessing months of violence with al-Aqsa Mosque compound standing as a rallying point for Palestinian resistance to the Israeli attempts to take control of the holy site.
The al-Aqsa Mosque has recently been a scene of clashes between Palestinian worshippers and Israelis.
Israel closed the mosque to Muslim worshippers a day after a 32-year-old Palestinian, Moataz Hejazi, made an attempt on the life of Yehuda Glick, an American-born Israeli settler, on October 29.
