West Opposing, Derailing Muslim Aspirations, Iran’s Larijani Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Inciting religious strife among Muslims is a plot hatched by the West to impair plans of Islamic countries for democracy and independence, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani warned.

The pursuit of democracy, independence and revival of the Islamic identity have been among causes of the Islamic nations, Larijani said, addressing the 10th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), in Turkey’s Istanbul on Wednesday.

“The very first challenge that the West created against such evolutionary (Islamic) move was to derail that approach or suppress it,” the Iranian speaker added.

He noted that the West has initiated “fabricated crises” in the Islamic countries to “sap their energy” and distract the Muslims’ attention from their aspirations.

Stirring up sectarian rifts in the Muslim nations is one of the tactics used by the West, Larijani reiterated.

The Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) holds annual meetings to address the problems of Islamic countries.

The union was established in 1999 and is based in Iran.

The 9th session of the PUIC was held in Tehran in February 2014 with representatives from nearly 50 countries in attendance.
