Iran’s 11-Month Non-Oil Exports Reach $45bln

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran exported around $45 billion worth of non-oil goods during the first 326 days of the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2014), head of Iran's Customs Office announced.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Masoud Karbasian said Iran exported $13.065 billion worth of gas condensates during the nearly eleven-month period, marking a 43.5 percent increase compared to the previous year.

The value of export of petrochemical products reached $12.545 billion, while the revenue from the export of other commodities valued at $18.8 billion in that time span, he said.

China, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Afghanistan and India were the biggest importers of Iranian goods respectively, the official added.

During the 11-month period, Karbasian noted, Iran has imported $46.567 billion worth of goods, showing a 13.77 percent rise in comparison with the previous year.

Imports included mainly wheat, cars, rice and soybean meal, coming from China (23%), the UAE (23%), South Korea (8%), Turkey (7%), India (7%) and others (30% combined), he noted.

In October 2014, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for formulation of necessary plans to cut Iran’s dependence on oil revenues and govern the country on the basis of domestic capabilities instead of natural resources.

Iran’s new administration, which took office in August 2013, has voiced determination to increase the volume of non-oil exports as a determining factor in countering economic stagnation in the country.
