FM: Iran Ready to Promote Ties with Algeria


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that the Islamic Republic is prepared to strengthen relations with Algeria in diverse political and economic spheres.

In a meeting with the new ambassador of Algeria to Tehran on Sunday, Zarif pointed to the grounds for the promotion of Tehran-Algiers cooperation at bilateral and international levels, and wished successful mission for the Algerian diplomat in Iran.

“We (Iran and Algeria) are located in the same region and face similar challenges, like terrorism and extremism, and (accordingly) we are ready to improve our ties with Algeria in all areas,” Zarif said.

The Iranian minister further emphasized that the two Muslim countries can boost mutual cooperation at parliamentary levels as well as in the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Algerian envoy, for his part, expressed the hope that he would be able to help promote bilateral relations during his tenure in the Islamic Republic.

In the meeting, the Algerian diplomat also submitted a copy of his credentials to the Iranian foreign minister.
