Iran, G5+1 Nuclear Talks Continue in Vienna

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Diplomats from Iran and world powers on Thursday started the second day of a new round of nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Thursday's talks on Tehran's peaceful nuclear program were held at two different levels.

In the expert-level discussions, experts from Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, France, US, Britain, and Germany) took up issues surrounding the nuclear case.

In the higher-level talks, Iranian deputy foreign ministers Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi held nuclear talks with European Union Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmidt.

The EU coordinates diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the sextet.

The negotiations, which are expected to continue until Friday, could later be also attended by top American, Russian, Chinese, British, and German officials.

Iran and the six powers are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
