Iranian MPs Briefed on Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his deputy Abbas Araqchi, senior negotiators engaged in nuclear talks with six world powers, on Sunday briefed the country's parliamentarians on the nuclear negotiations.

During a closed-door session of the parliament, Zarif and Araqchi answered the legislators' questions on the procedure of termination of anti-Iran sanctions under a possible final nuclear deal, the future inspections of the country's nuclear facilities, and other issues, Behrouz Ne'mati, rapporteur of the parliament's presiding board told reporters.

According to Ne'mati, Araqchi has underlined that any inspection of the country's nuclear sites will be within the framework of the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and that Tehran will not agree to anything beyond it.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.

Diplomats from the two sides are now drafting the text of the final accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
