Iranian, Tajik FMs Discuss Ways to Boost Tehran-Dushanbe Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Tajik counterpart, Sirojidin Aslov, explored avenues for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries in various political and economic spheres.

In their meeting held on Wednesday evening on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in Moscow, Zarif and Aslov exchanged views on a whole range of issues, including bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region.

In his remarks, Zarif touched upon the "deep-rooted and historical ties" between the Iranian and Tajik nations and said the two countries' economic relations can further expand.   

He expressed the hope that problems and obstacles in the path to promote Tehran-Dushanbe relations would be eliminated and the grounds for closer economic ties would be paved.

Zarif further reiterated Iran's support for Tajikistan's unity and national solidarity.

Aslov, for his part, hailed Iran's stances on security, stability and development of Tajikistan and described further talks and meetings at various levels between the two countries' officials as necessary for the promotion of relations in all areas.

Zarif is in Russia to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting and the High-level Conference "Security and Stability in the SCO Region".
