Mexican Senators to Visit Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A delegation of Mexican senators will arrive in Tehran on Sunday, June 14, for talks with Iranian lawmakers and officials on the bilateral ties.

Chairwoman of the Mexican Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barrón will head the delegation in the upcoming visit at the invitation of chairman of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

During their 6-day stay in Iran, the Mexican senators are scheduled to hold talks on Tehran-Mexico City bilateral ties and parliamentary relations.

Cuevas Barrón had already travelled to Iran in July 2014. During her meetings with Iranian officials in Tehran at the time, she called for the expansion of amicable relations with the Islamic Republic, particularly in economic, cultural and scientific fields.

In December 2014, an Iranian parliamentary delegation, led by Boroujerdi, travelled to Mexico in the first official visit to the North American nation in 35 years.

Promotion of ties with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.

Tehran has close political and trade relations with Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.
