Ayatollah Khamenei Raps Attempts to Whitewash US Hostile Image

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei lashed out at those who seek to cover up the heinous record of the US atrocities against the Iranian nation, including a long list of terrorist attacks, either carried out or backed by Washington.

“Those who want to cover up the image of evil hostility of the US and a number of its followers through media campaign are in fact betraying the nation and the country,” the Leader said in a meeting with families of the Iranian martyrs, held in Tehran on Saturday evening.

Ayatollah Khamenei also stressed the need for understanding the enemy in the contemporary era.

“The (Iranian) nation should gain an understanding of the depth of the enemy’s enmity, to get prepared to confront and counter (the foes) in the soft war fields, as in the cultural, political and social arenas,” the Leader added.

Imam Khamenei further pointed to a number of many abhorrent acts of terror against Iran in the past, including the shooting down of an Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf by the US Navy in July 1988, and a deadly bomb attack by US-backed elements that killed scores of senior Iranian officials in Tehran in 1981.

On June 28, 1981, members of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), backed by the US, blew up the headquarters of the Islamic Republic Party in Tehran, killing 72 ranking officials, including Head of Supreme Judicial Council Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti.

Around 17,000 Iranians have fallen victim to terrorist attacks since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
