Massive Rally Held in Yemen to Mark Int'l Quds Day
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands of Yemeni people poured into the streets of the capital, Sana'a, on Friday to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian nation, as a humanitarian ceasefire has taken hold in the Arabian Peninsula country.
Yemenis from every walk of life participated in the massive demonstration in Sana'a to observe the international Quds Day, Lebanese-based Al-Manar TV channel reported.
During the rally, demonstrators carried banners and placards reading, "Death to the US", "Death to Israel" and "Victory for Islam".
Similar rallies were held in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Bahrain and some other Muslim countries.
Each year, millions of people across the world hold massive rallies on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
It is seen as an opportunity for freedom-seeking people across the world, regardless of faith, to voice their support for the cause of Palestine and vent their anger against the Apartheid regime of Israel, which has occupied Palestinian territories since 1967.
Yemen's Quds Day rally was held although Yemenis have been suffering from daily Saudi airstrikes since late March.
The humanitarian truce in Yemen did not come until Friday, more than 100 days after Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
