EU Foreign Policy Chief in Iran for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini arrived in the capital city of Tehran on Tuesday to hold talks with top Iranian officials.

Two weeks after Iran and world powers successfully concluded their talks over the country's nuclear energy program, Mogherini is visiting Tehran to provide an opportunity for exchanges on the implementation of the agreement.

She is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The nuclear conclusion as well as regional problems including the crises in Yemen and Syria are among the issues expected to be discussed in the meetings.

Her trip to Iran is the second leg of her visit to the Persian Gulf region. She earlier made a trip to Riyadh on Monday and held talks with Saudi officials, mainly on the recent conclusion of Iran nuclear talks.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 concluded more than two weeks of intensive nuclear talks in Vienna.

The negotiations resulted in a comprehensive 159-page document known as JCPOA on Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

The EU foreign policy chief Mogherini coordinated the nuclear diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the sextet.
